There’s a growing trend in marketing today, some retailers are becoming philanthropists and are either donating a portion of their earnings to charity or donating the whole sales of a certain product to charity. Two of these retailer-philanthropist are tomsshoes.com and chemo-couture.com
Tomsshoes.com
Tomsshoes.com is an online retailer of shoes, most specifically, canvas, woven, and vegan shoes. Their goal? For every shoes you purchase, one shoes will be given to a child in need. That’s one shoes for one. There are a lot of children in poor countries growing up without barefoot and the owner aims to alleviate that problem through Tomsshoes’ business model.
Toms shoes was started in 2006 and since then, they have given away around 140,000 shoes to children. So the next time you’re thinking of buying canvas shoes or woven shoes, you can buy from Toms Shoes to make sure that a child somewhere doesn’t have to go barefoot.
Chemo-Couture.com
Chemo-Couture on the other hand, is a fairly new website and while not specializing in shoes, they have a variety of clothing and accessories. Five percent of their sales goes to charity to find a cure for cancer. Some of their products include T-Shirts, blankets, scarves, and bags. Their website is targeted for those with cancer or whose loved ones are fighting cancer. They have a collection for chemo day which includes some products that can be used while undergoing chemo such as blankets, seat belt covers, cooler and some apparel. In the website’s “about us” page, the owners talk about how they wanted to build products that are ideal gifts for persons undergoing chemotherapy.
These are only two websites that are giving back to charity. Next time you go shopping, you might want to shop with a conscience and choose a retailer that gives back to charity as well.
